Joe Biden vows to help ‘rebuild’ Gaza, insists on two-state solution

Jow Biden called for a two-state solution for Gaza.

Washington, United States:

US President Joe Biden on Friday pledged to help organize the reconstruction efforts in Gaza and said the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel was the “only answer” to the conflict.

Biden also said he told the Israelis to end “inter-communal fighting” in the city of Jerusalem, flash point.

However, he stressed “there is no change in my commitment, my commitment to the security of Israel” and added that until the region “unequivocally recognizes” the existence of Israel “it there will be no peace “.

The idea of a two-state solution – with a sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel and Jerusalem as its common capital – has been the cornerstone of decades of international diplomacy aimed at ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

US policy under Donald Trump has been criticized as being blatantly pro-Israel and ignoring the Palestinians.

A Middle East peace plan devised by Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner has been touted as providing for a two-state solution. But that plan envisioned a Palestinian state with limited sovereignty and Israel maintaining security over that state.

The plan was rejected out of hand by the Palestinian leadership.

Biden insisted on a full-fledged two-state cure on Friday.

“There is no change in my commitment to the security of Israel, period, no change, not at all,” he said.

“But I’m telling you what a change is in. The change is that we still need a two-state solution. That’s the only answer, the only answer,” Biden said.
