A former Democratic state senator claimed on Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris is using President Joe Biden as a “meal ticket” to run for president in 2024.
“Let’s face it, Joe Biden is Kamala Harris’ meal ticket to potentially the presidency,” Gloria Romero, former California Senate Majority Leader from 2005 to 2008, told Fox News‘ “Fox & Friends First.” . (RELATED: Kamala Harris says the border is ‘secure’)
“She must move forward and continue to present herself to the public and especially to other potential opponents that Joe Biden leads, because the longer people can believe this myth, the greater the opportunity than any other competitor like [Gavin] Newsom or [Pete] Buttigieg or even Hillary Clinton could enter the fray,” Romero said.
Romero, now a professor at Pepperdine University School of Public Policy, reacted to Harris’ remarks on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday to find out if she would run again as vice president alongside Biden. Harris said she would do so “proudly,” noting that Biden “has been very clear about his intention to run again.”
Biden is reportedly preparing to unveil his 2024 re-election bid in the wake of November’s congressional midterm elections, aides and allies of the president Told Bloomberg News in August. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in July that Biden “intends to run in 2024.”
A USA Today – Ipsos survey released Aug. 28 found that 56% of Democrats don’t think Biden should run in 2024. The online poll, which surveyed more than 2,300 voters and had a margin of error of 2.5 plus or minus, also revealed that 60% of Democrats think Biden could win if he runs.
Romero also reacted to Democratic Ohio Senate candidate and Congressman Tim Ryan’s assertion on Thursday that there should be “new leaders” when asked if Biden should run in 2024. asked Romero if more Democrats “felt like Tim Ryan” or Harris in terms of Biden’s 2024 offer.
“This so-called sudden desire to see a generational change by Congressman Ryan, it’s again, it’s like the definition of security,” Romero said. “No one believes it, it’s gaslighting.”
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
