Kamala Harris named Blackpink among Gold House’s 100 most influential Asians

Gold House has unveiled its list of the 100 Most Outstanding Asians of the Year. Vice President Kamala Harris, Oscar winners HER and Chloe Zhao, and K-pop group Blackpink are among the list of honored politicians, entrepreneurs, athletes and artists.

The nonprofit, which seeks to elevate Asian voices and their cultural impact on society, is working to reshape public opinion by affirming media representations. Bob Iger, Daniel Dae Kim, George Takei, Lea Salonga, Lisa Ling, Michael B. Jordan and Michelle Yeoh were judges this year.

Bing Chen, Chairman and Co-Founder of Gold House said, “Our leaders can no longer just be great – they have to be good. They cannot simply represent us in the celebration – they must also uplift us when we are in pain. That’s why this year’s Gold House A100 list highlights leaders who have been excellent in their accomplishments and prominent in activism. This is, in many ways, the fight for our lives – and we need fighters who see that.

Simu Liu, star of the upcoming ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ and impact list winner, said, “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by my community. I have been fortunate to have worked on a number of final projects within the Asian Diaspora and have been a direct benefactor of the efforts of organizations like Gold House. I am extremely proud of my Asian-American and Canadian heritage, and I am extremely happy to continue to show the world what it means to be unabashedly Asian.

He added, “I want an Asian-American film to break a billion dollars at the global box office. But one is not enough. I want to see more; I want to see seconds, thirds, quarters and fifths. We cannot be satisfied with “firsts”. “

Liu stressed the importance of raising the voices and artists of BIPOC in front of and behind the camera. The actor, who wrote a guest column for Variety On AAPI hate crimes, reiterated the need to teach Asian history in classrooms. He said, “We need to raise awareness and help educate the world about the roots of anti-AAPI racism. From the Chinese exclusion law and the internment of Japanese Americans to the Rock Springs massacre and murder of Vincent Chin, important moments in Asian-American history have been completely overlooked in school curricula and , therefore, many Americans (including those who identify as AAPI) just don’t know all of the injustices we have faced. When we look at what is happening to our community these days as a result of COVID, the relationship is clear; we have been marginalized and discriminated against for over 150 years, and we must stand together if we are to effect change. Those in the public eye should lead the charge, but also learn to use their platforms to spotlight activists and community leaders working at the local level.

Oscar nominee Riz Ahmed said, “It’s great to be on this list alongside all of these amazing people. I am excited to play my part alongside them in helping to expand culture and take audiences with us to new places, both as an artist and through my company Lefthanded.
