Kamala Harris to officiate New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s wedding

Grisham will wed her fiancé, Manny Cordova, in a small ceremony at the Naval Observatory, where the vice president resides. The 19th-century home in northwest Washington has been the vice president’s official residence since Walter Mondale took the job, according to the White House.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our wedding in front of our family and close friends,” Grisham and Cordova said. “Like so many New Mexicans, we have postponed family celebrations for the past two years during this pandemic. We feel lucky to be with our loved ones to celebrate our wedding.”

The couple will also celebrate their wedding in northern New Mexico in late May, according to the statement.

The Associated Press was the first to report Harris’ role in the marriage.

Lujan Grisham’s first husband, Gregory Grisham, died of a brain aneurysm in 2004.

After serving as Health Secretary under New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, Lujan Grisham was elected to Congress in 2012 before choosing to run for Governor in 2018. She easily beat Republican Steve Pearce in the general election. and is seeking re-election this year.

Lujan Grisham was once a leading candidate to join the Biden administration as head of the Department of Health and Human Services, but the role eventually went to Xavier Becerra, California’s first Latino attorney general.
The news of her marriage comes after the White House announced that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host a White House wedding reception in November for their eldest granddaughter, Naomi Biden. The White House reception is scheduled for Nov. 19; it is not yet known where the nuptial ceremony will take place.
