Lack of BMU site costs Democrats votes

Excellent article by Riley Blake leading the local Democratic Party to consider the results of the Butte County recall election.

James Aram, chairman of the Butte County Democratic Party, shared his feelings about the division of the nation and in this county and the need for greater unity of purpose, noting that the recall has narrowly won here. . Riley reported that the Republican president did not respond to his calls.

Yes, there was a roughly 50/50 distribution of votes in Butte County, but what did not come out of the article was that the absence of the BMU campus as a center of voter assistance cost Democrats thousands of student votes… probably. enough to have swayed the county for Newsom. Myself and other volunteers, along with the CSU Democratic Club, spent time on campus handing out instructions at the nearest Voter Assistance Center (over a mile) to students who needed to s ” register and vote at their new address. I understand the county clerk wanted the usual BMU help desk, but this was denied until too late, by the university due to Covid issues.

Hopefully by next year, under the leadership of the Democrats, the Covid outbreak will be mitigated so that the BMU can be used again. Restricted access to the vote is tantamount to the suppression of voters and should not be tolerated.

Fortunately, the Democrats from California came in such large numbers that Gavin won by two to one statewide. Thanks to everyone who voted NO.
