Vice President Kamala Harris will rally for Massachusetts Democrats in Boston on Wednesday

Less than a week from election dayVice President Kamala Harris will travel to Boston for a campaign rally in Roxbury, hoping to build support for the Democratic ticket statewide and energize voters.

Appearing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, Harris will join gubernatorial candidate Maura Healey; Lieutenant Governor candidate Kim Driscoll, Attorney General candidate Andrea Campbell, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

In a press release previewing the event, organizers said the rally would focus on “driving voters to the polls, especially in communities of color like Roxbury.”

The election could have historic ramifications for elected women. If successful, Healey would be the first woman elected governor of Massachusetts and the second to hold the office after former acting governor Jane Swift. Healey and Driscoll’s victories would deliver the nation’s first all-female state executive office. Campbell has the opportunity to become the first black woman elected to statewide office in the Commonwealth.

Polls show the Healey campaign in a strong position to claim victory within a week from Tuesday. A sample of 700 registered voters released last week had 59% supporting Healey, compared to 32% for his Republican opponent Geoff Diehl.

About 60% of respondents said Healey’s ideology most closely resembles that of the Republican Governor Charlie Bakerone of the the most popular governors.
