WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris is traveling to Houston this week where she is expected to address the National Baptist Convention and chair the second meeting of the National Space Council at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Harris is set to address the annual session of the National Baptist Convention, which bills itself as the nation’s oldest and largest African-American religious convention, on Thursday. The meeting, held downtown, is expected to attract some 20,000 delegates.

On Friday, Harris is scheduled to visit NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where she will lead a space council meeting. The council coordinates federal space policies and activities, synchronizing efforts in the civil, commercial and national security sectors. At the first meeting, in December, Harris focused on building a STEM workforce, fighting climate change, and promoting the rules and norms that govern the space.

Harris visited Texas last year, making a trip to El Paso during the early months of an unprecedented wave of migration across the southern border. The trip came after President Joe Biden assigned Harris to lead the administration’s efforts to manage the situation at the border.
